3 Day Murchison Falls Safari Uganda

Murchison Falls is Uganda’s largest national park situated in the Northwestern part of the country covering an area of 3,893 km2.However, the park has a buffer zone called Murchison falls Conservation area which include Bugungu and Karuma conservation areas. It takes 5-6 hours’ drive whoever, if you choose to visit the ZIWA Rhino sanctuary then expect an extra 2 hours.

This park has 76 mammal species including the big four i.e.  Lions, Elephants, Cape Buffalo,Leopards, and over 450 species of birds such as the Hamercop, the Goliath heron shoe bill stork, Guinea fowl, the king fisher and many more. You will have a great time on game drives and the boat cruise on the River Nile. The highlight of it all is at the top of the falls where the powerful Nile surges through a narrow space approximately 7 meters and the water falls 43 feet below, this causes a powerful splash which is a spectacle to watch.

Day 1
Day 1: Drive to Murchison falls NP

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel in the morning or for those arriving at Entebbe international airport expect your driver guide to pick you up and set off to Murchison falls, you will drive through several towns along the way before having a stop in Ziwa Rhino sanctuary where the endangered White rhinoceros are bred. This Rhino sanctuary was started to protect the White Rhino populations found in Uganda. After, proceed to Masindi for your lunch. It is 2-3 hours drive from Masindi town to the Parkentrance. As you drive through the Budongo Forest, you will comes across troops of Baboons, monkeys and several bird species.

Depending on time of arrival at the park, one may have agame drive that evening as you warm up for the game drive in themorning. Arrive at your preferred accommodation relax, refresh and wait for diner.

Day 2
Day 2: Go for an early morning game drive, hike and a boat cruise along River Nile

Have breakfast by 6am and thereafter and proceed to the headquarters of thepark. This Game drive starts at about 7am, drive as you look out for animals such as; the giraffes, lions, hyenas, water bucks, elephants, buffalos, antelopes- many speciesbirds such as; hadada ibis, hamerkop, marabou stock, king fisher, egrets to mention but a few. As you have your game drive, you may relax and have a picnic on the river bank as you listen to the groans of the Hippos.

Thereafter, transfer to your lodge and enjoy your lunch as you get ready for breathtakingboat cruise in the afternoon on River Nile. This cruise is spectacular as it allows you to get up close to the aquatic animals such as; the hippos, crocodiles, water bucks, buffalos, elephants etc. Among the birds commonly sited on the boat cruise include the goliath heron, king fisher, weaver birds, bee eater, cattle egrets and the beautiful scenery along the bank. At the base of the magnificent waterfalls, you may choose to hike up to the falls top most or choose to take photos at the rocks below the falls.

Day 3
Day 3: Travel back to Kampala

Have early breakfast, and enjoy another morning game drive. Drive to the top of the falls, you will enjoy the powerful Nile as it squeezes through the narrow 7 meter gorge, crushing down 42 feet below, producing thunderous splashes of water which raises up 10 meters high, it’s such a spectacle to watch the power of nature, proceed to Kampala arriving late evening.
