Start your day with an early breakfast, your driver guide will take you to Kanyanchu Visitor center at the park office where you will be briefed on the dos and don’ts before you starttracking Chimpanzees.
You will be allocated a group of not more than six people and given a ranger to guide you throughout the chimp tracking experience.
Tracking the chimps is an exciting experience on average it takes about 3 hours to find the chimps. Locating the chimps depends on the weather and season, during dry spells the chimps move longer distance in search of food and water while in the wet seasons food is readily available so the chimps can easily be traced. The chimps also become illusive during times of patrolling territories, they move tens of kilometers thus making it difficult to be found.
During the chimp tracking you may come across other primates such as; Blue monkey, vervet monkey, red tailed monkey, mangabey, bush pigs, elephants, baboons, different bird species and butterflies.
When you finally get to see the chimps you are allowed one hour with the primates, during this encounter, you will get the see the chimps grooming, fighting, feeding, the young ones playing, adults swinging from tree to tree and the ranger guide will brief you about the life history of the chimps and their interaction with the other inhabitants of the forest. You are allowed to take photos but you are advised to keep your distance and flash photography is not allowed.
After this wonderful experience you will transfer to the lodge and head for Bwindi Impenetrable forest for next adventure.
Have an early breakfast 6:30am, then proceed to the park headquarters by 7.30am for a briefing concerning the trek from the Park Wardens. As you leave the lodge carry enough drinking water, snacks a rain coat, a water proof camera, wear strong shoes and log sleeved trousers for hiking and also come along with your lunch boxes plus any other necessarymaterial for trekking gorillas.
The park wardens will assign youto different gorilla families which you will trek since each group can be visited by not more than 8 people. Apart fromwatching Gorillas in the forest, you can see other animals such as bush pigs, antelopes, baboons, chimpanzees, forest elephants and various bird species.
On meeting these rare mighty gentle giants you are allowed to be with themfor only one hour, you can take photos but with no flashes from the cameras, a minimum of 5meters distance must left between you and the gorillas since they can easily contract human diseases, not only that, however also getting closer to them especially to the silverbacks it means that you are invading their space therefore this could make the charge – in case they charge avoid running away.
The trek can take as less as 2 or sometimes up to 8 hours, this is all worth your effort. After the trek, you could opt for a community walk where you will visit the locals living in the neighborhood of the park. You will discover how they live and also enjoy storytelling, traditional music and dances from them. It is soexcitingsince you will be exposed to totally a different culture from yours, your visit also directly contributes to the community’s wellbeing.
You can also visit the community school governed by the NGO in that area or opt forfollowing the trial that takes you to the spectacular waterfalls where you will also watch some bird species.
