Magashi Camp

On a private peninsula above Lake Rwanyakazinga in Akagera’s wild northeast, Magashi’s six airy tented suites overlook papyrus beds patrolled by hippo and shoebill — the best seat in the house for Africa’s greatest conservation comeback.

Why We Love It

Akagera lost its lions and rhinos to history; both are back — lions since 2015, black rhinos since 2017 — and Magashi sits in the exclusive-use heart of the recovery. Game drives regularly turn up all of the Big Five with no other vehicle in sight.

The Experience

Dawn drives through savannah and acacia woodland, boat safaris among crocodiles and fish eagles, night drives for leopard and serval, and lantern-lit dinners on the deck above the lake.
