Ngorongoro Crater is home to thousands of animals including the rare black rhino which is highly endangered on the African continent. The park has large numbers of predators including; lions, leopards, jackals, hyenas and cheetahs.
The park also has one of the largest calderas and in it are several water bodies, grasslands, forests and swamps. It is because of this ecosystem that this National Park has one of the highest wildlife population densities in the world.
Neighboring this park are the Maasai pastoralists who live side by side with wildlife in this park. Cattle keeping is their main form of occupation though they also engage in community tourism to earn an extra income.
