Tipping Culture Hotels and lodges tips in Uganda

With hotels and lodges, it is always advisable to use the tip boxes which are at the reception. The hotel staff share whatever tip has been left behind for them. Unless for exceptional staff who you feel need an extra tip, but even then do it discreetly without other staff knowing.

Primate parks tips in Uganda

Overall when you visit Uganda, certain parks need much emphasis on a tipping culture. These include Bwindi Impenetrable National park where you expect to find Park rangers, trackers, security personnel, and porters. After the long trekking, tourists may tip the team however small it is. The Same applies to Kibale National park and other primate parks in Uganda. Since the team is big, a minimum of 20 US dollars and above is recommended.

Savannah parks tipping culture in Uganda

The other parks are mainly the savannah parks. Some of these include Murchison falls National park, Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo National Park. Here, tipping is normally done when a game ranger accompanies you to do a game drive. A bare minimum of about 20,000 and above is recommended in this case.

During your safari in Uganda, you may be entertained by cultural dances or drama. For example, before gorilla trekking in Bwindi National Park cultural dances are offered as part of entertainment and passing on information to the tourists. It is therefore polite for tourists to give tips to those who have entertained them. A minimum of 5 US dollars or SHS 20,000 Uganda shillings and above is recommended as a tip to the group. As part of your tour package, you may do cultural tours and during these tours. The local people may offer to do some cultural dances or drama. How to tip kids on your Ugandan safari

As you drive along the dusty roads in Uganda, from time to time you will come across kids along the roads and they will all be waving to you and putting on those beautiful smiles. As a love gesture, you may give them money but it is not advisable to do so. Instead carry along some candies, biscuits or packets of sweets which you will give to the kids when the vehicle stops. Believe me you will have made their day. It is prudent to teach the children of Uganda a tipping culture.  You may also visit schools or orphanages, in this case you may decide to donate some scholastic materials to the kids or donate to the school management.

When you start your safari, you will be welcomed by your tour guide and he or she will stay with you the entire time till you depart. The tour guides are well paid for by the company and it is entirely upon you to decide how much you should tip your tour guide.
