Overview
Rwanda beyond the gorillas: seven days pairing Akagera — the conservation fairy-tale where lions and black rhinos have been triumphantly returned — with the inland beaches of Lake Kivu. Big Five game drives, boat safaris among hippos, and sunsets over the water with not another visitor in sight.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
City touring at your pace — the moving Genocide Memorial, the craft studios of Kimihurura — and dinner at one of the capital’s superb restaurants.
Days 2–4: Akagera National Park
Three days in Central Africa’s largest protected wetland savannah: Big Five game drives, a sunset boat safari on Lake Ihema and a behind-the-scenes look at the park’s celebrated rhino and lion reintroductions.
Days 5–6: Lake Kivu
Cross the country’s spine of a thousand hills to Rwanda’s inland sea — kayaking at dawn, coffee-farm visits on the terraced slopes and barefoot evenings on the sand.
Day 7: Return to Kigali
A gentle morning on the water, then the lakeside road back to Kigali for your onward flight.
