Tucked into Uganda’s far northeastern frontier where the borders of South Sudan and Kenya meet, Kidepo is the country’s wildest secret — twin savannah valleys ringed by mountains, routinely ranked among Africa’s finest parks and visited by almost no one.
The Narus Valley holds buffalo herds a thousand strong, big prides of lion and elephant against a horizon of jagged peaks. Kidepo is also the only Ugandan park with cheetah, ostrich and aardwolf. Beyond the wildlife, encounters with the Karamojong pastoralists and the cliff-dwelling Ik people are among East Africa’s most authentic cultural experiences.
September to March is the dry season here (opposite in rhythm to the south), concentrating game along the Narus River. Charter flights from Entebbe take around two hours — the only sensible way in, and a spectacular one.
A single small luxury camp overlooks the Narus Valley — exclusivity is guaranteed by geography. We add Kidepo as a two-night wilderness finale for travellers who want Uganda entirely to themselves.
