Angama Mara

1 min read

High on the Oloololo escarpment, Angama Mara’s glass-fronted tented suites hang 300 metres above the Mara Triangle — the very landscape where Out of Africa’s most famous scenes were filmed. ‘Angama’ means ‘suspended in mid-air’ in Swahili, and no name was ever better earned.

Why We Love It

The view, first: the entire Mara spread below your bed, with the migration drifting across it like cloud shadows from July to October. Then the details — a photographic studio, a shamba garden lunch, beadwork with the resident Maasai women, and guiding among the finest in Kenya.

The Experience

Descend each morning into the wildlife-dense Mara Triangle — the quietest corner of the reserve — for big cats, crossings in season and picnics on the Tanzanian border. Balloon flights launch nearby at dawn.

Need to Know

Three nights minimum during migration season — and book up to a year out. Reserve fees ($200 per day in peak season) are handled within our itineraries, including our Masai Mara Explorer. Read our Maasai Mara guide.
