Ruzizi Tented Lodge

Ruzizi Tented Lodge is a small tented lodge on the shore of Lake Ihema, about six kilometres from the Akagera reception, its tents set back among swaying palms and fruiting fig trees.

Why We Love Ruzizi Tented Lodge

Nine tents and a ceiling of twenty guests make this the quietest way into Akagera short of Magashi money. Wooden walkways lead to a deck standing out over the lake with a fire pit at its centre, and hippos are audible from bed for most of the night.

The Experience

Seven standard tents, one tree-top tent with a king bed, a bath and an outdoor shower, and one family tent sleeping two adults and two children. All are en-suite and solar-powered. Much of the furniture and decoration was made by artisans and cooperatives living around the park. Boat trips on Ihema run alongside the game drives.

Need to Know

Akagera carries all of the big five again following the return of lion and rhino, and it is the only park in Rwanda where you will find them. Kigali is roughly two and a half hours west. It pairs with our Grand East Africa route. Read our Akagera guide.
