Overview
This six-day private journey is devoted to Rwanda’s great primates. From the bamboo slopes of Volcanoes National Park to the ancient canopy of Nyungwe Forest, you will spend unhurried days in the company of mountain gorillas, chimpanzees and the rare golden monkey — staying at two of the country’s most exclusive lodges throughout.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
Meet your private guide at Kigali International Airport and tour the Kigali Genocide Memorial and city highlights before a scenic drive to the foothills of the Virunga volcanoes.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking, Volcanoes National Park
An early briefing at park headquarters, then trek through bamboo forest with expert trackers to spend a magical hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family.
Day 3: Golden Monkeys & Twin Lakes
Track the endangered golden monkey in the morning, then paddle the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo beneath the volcanoes by traditional canoe.
Day 4: To Nyungwe Forest
Travel south along the shores of Lake Kivu to Nyungwe, one of Africa’s oldest rainforests, arriving in time for the famous canopy walkway at sunset.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Tracking, Nyungwe
A dawn start to track chimpanzees through the ancient canopy, followed by an afternoon among Nyungwe’s thirteen primate species and three hundred bird species.
Day 6: Return to Kigali & Departure
A leisurely morning before flying or driving back to Kigali for your onward flight.
