Set high on a hilltop in the private Grumeti Reserve, Singita Sasakwa is the grande dame of Tanzanian lodges — an Edwardian-style manor whose lawns roll away into 350,000 acres of private migration country on the Serengeti’s western edge.
Exclusivity, above all. The Grumeti concession shares the Serengeti ecosystem but not its crowds: when the migration pours through between May and July you will often watch a river crossing entirely alone. The lodge itself is pure colonial romance — chandeliers and clawfoot tubs, croquet lawns, a billiard room and an infinity pool that hangs over the plains.
Days are yours to shape with your private guide: classic game drives, mountain biking through the bush, horseback safaris alongside giraffe, archery, tennis or a hot-air balloon at dawn. Cottages come with fireplaces, private pools and butlers; the wine cellar would embarrass many Cape Town restaurants.
We recommend three to four nights, ideally June or July for the Grumeti crossings — though resident game keeps the reserve superb year-round. Sasakwa anchors our Great Migration Luxury Safari beautifully, and direct charter flights from Arusha land on the reserve’s own airstrip.
