Paraa Safari Lodge

1 min read

Paraa has stood on the northern bank of the Victoria Nile since 1954, named for the ferry crossing beside it, and it remains the oldest address in Murchison Falls.

Why We Love It

Position and continuity. Seventy years of researchers, dignitaries and travellers have passed through, and the walls carry the old maps and mementos to show for it. The Buligi game tracks begin a short drive away and the boats leave from the jetty below the lawn.

The Experience

Fifty-four rooms over two thatched storeys, most with a balcony facing the river, and a pool with a swim-up bar that earns its place after a hot morning of game drives. Dinner leans on Nile perch. This is a larger and more sociable property than most, closer to a classic safari hotel than a small bush camp.

Need to Know

The boat up to the base of the falls runs about three hours return; a separate run downstream to the delta is the one for shoebill. Both start beside the lodge. It is our Murchison base on the Great Primate Expedition. Read our Murchison Falls guide.
