One and Only Nyungwe House

One and Only Nyungwe House sits inside a working tea plantation on the western edge of Nyungwe National Park, one of the oldest montane rainforests in Africa, about 230 kilometres southwest of Kigali.

Why We Love One and Only Nyungwe House

It is the only property of its class on this side of the country, and it opens a forest that most Rwanda trips skip altogether. Chimpanzees, thirteen primate species and the canopy walkway are all within reach, and the tea estate wrapping the buildings gives the setting an order that the rainforest behind it does not.

The Experience

Twenty two rooms and suites across six wooden villas joined by walkways, each with a fireplace, a terrace and a deep tub that earns its keep after a trek. There is a heated infinity pool and a spa, and lunch is often a picnic carried into the forest. Monkeys work the tea rows and the balconies without much concern for guests.

Need to Know

Getting here takes four to five hours by road from Kigali, or 35 minutes by air to Kamembe followed by a 45 minute drive. Chimpanzee trekking is limited to guests aged 15 and over. It works as an extension to our Grand East Africa route. Read our Nyungwe guide.
