African Safari Questions, Answered

For East Africa, the dry seasons rule: June to October delivers the classic game viewing and the Great Migration in the Serengeti and Masai Mara, while December to February adds the calving season and superb big-cat action. Gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda is wonderful year-round, with the easiest trails from June to September.

Expect roughly $700–$2,500 per person per night at top lodges and camps, all-inclusive of game drives, meals and most drinks. A well-built week runs from about $8,000 to $17,000 per person depending on season, exclusivity and internal flights — and we always show park fees and permits transparently in every quote.

Kenya and Tanzania are the classic first acts — big skies, big cats and the migration. Uganda and Rwanda are the great second chapter, built around mountain gorillas. The honest answer is that it depends on your dreams, dates and budget — tell us those three things and we'll tell you where to go.

Seven to ten nights is the sweet spot for a first safari: enough for two or three areas without rushing. Gorilla-focused trips can be done beautifully in four to five nights; grand multi-country journeys deserve twelve or more. We'd rather you go deeper in fewer places than skim many.

Yes. East Africa's safari circuit is mature and professionally run — you fly or drive between vetted camps with our own guides, and lodges maintain excellent safety standards. Wildlife rules are simple and your guide enforces them; the usual common-sense city precautions apply in Nairobi or Kampala.

Soft-sided luggage (15 kg on bush flights), neutral-coloured layers, a warm fleece for dawn drives, decent walking shoes, sun protection and binoculars. For gorilla trekking add waterproofs, gloves and gaiters. We send every guest a detailed, destination-specific packing list before travel.

Kenya uses a ~$30 online eTA; Uganda's eVisa is $50; Rwanda issues visas on arrival; and the $100 East Africa Tourist Visa covers Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda together. Yellow fever certificates are required in several cases, and malaria precautions are recommended everywhere — we confirm the specifics for your route.

For the migration season, gorilla permits and the most-loved camps: nine to twelve months. Shoulder and green seasons can be arranged in eight to twelve weeks. Last-minute magic is sometimes possible — ask — but the best beds and permits genuinely do sell out.

Can't find exactly what you dream of? We'll build it.
